The park wardens tell me that two crocodiles got through the fences and are loose somewhere in the lake complex. Two twenty-footers. I stare out the window at the swimmers, 'Get them out!' I hiss. Guards run along the lake edge yelling at people to get out of the water, it's like a scene from Jaws, suddenly someone shouts as they're dragged under by one. Red water, thrashing. Now the wardens are pulling them out with ropes, it's hard to see as I'm looking through an old telescope that shows images in grainy, out-of-focus black and white. They haul the crocodiles to the shore and set at them with axes.
